Galway United suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Derry City on Friday evening. The only goal came from Adam O'Reilly in the first minute of added time at the end of the first half.
The result leaves Galway United in sixth place in the Premier Division table with 37 points from their 30 matches. They now turn their focus to a home game against seventh-placed Shelbourne next Friday.
John Caulfield's side set up in a 3-4-1-2 formation with Hugo Alberto Pires da Cunha in goal. Despite having less of the ball, they managed 11 shots to Derry City's 10, though only one was on target. Stephen Walsh and Lee Devitt Molloy were both shown yellow cards during the contest.
Caulfield made a triple substitution in the 71st minute, introducing Frantz Pierrot, Francely Lomboto and Dylan Connolly in an attempt to find an equaliser. The changes could not prevent a third loss in the last five league outings.
Galway United's next chance to get back to winning ways comes at home to Shelbourne on 25 September.
