Galway United suffered a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Bohemians after surrendering a two-goal lead in the final 20 minutes at Terryland. Stephen Walsh and Kris Twardek had put the Tribesmen in command before a trio of Bohs substitutes completed a stunning turnaround.
The result leaves Galway sixth in the Premier Division with 37 points from 30 games, a position they will look to consolidate in their next match.
Walsh opened the scoring in the 31st minute, heading home a cross from Al-Amin Kazeem. Twardek doubled the advantage shortly after half-time, capitalising on a defensive mix-up between Bohs goalkeeper Paul Girard Walters and former Galway player Patrick Hickey.
Galway controlled large spells but struggled to create clear chances beyond their goals. Their defensive solidity evaporated in the final quarter. Colm Whelan, a Kilkenny native, pulled one back for the visitors with just over 15 minutes remaining. Ross Tierney levelled the scores seven minutes later, setting up a frantic finish.
Dawson Devoy completed the comeback in the 91st minute, firing past Hugo da Cunha to snatch all three points for the Dubliners. Bohs manager John Caulfield, a former Galway boss, saw his tactical changes pay off handsomely. "This game may have indicated why John Caulfield used neither player frequently in defence," Caulfield said of the defensive errors that led to Galway's second goal.
The defeat halts a positive run of form for Galway, who had won three of their last five league games, including a 3-1 victory over Sligo Rovers just days earlier. They now face a quick turnaround to prepare for the trip to Derry. The full squad list and current standings are available on the site.
